Here’s a recap of book launch and related events this month:
- Podcast Interview
Fellow writer Michell Plested interviewed me for his “Get Published” series. We talked for 20 minutes about the long and winding writing journey, how the publishing landscape is changing, and the process of bringing a new book into the world. You can listen or download for free here.
- Guest Blog
Sci-fi writer Kristene Perron is featuring a series of guest blogs on the topic of “Culture and Conflict” at her WarpWorld site. In my post, “Literature and Culture Clash,” I define the literary experience as essentially counter-cultural, offering truer and deeper narratives than the false manipulations of the mass media.

GVPL Emerging Authors display
April 10 at the Greater Victoria (BC) Public Library marked the launch of a new “Emerging Authors” section at the downtown branch, displaying new titles from 133 local writers. Included are my four titles published in 2013–14: Rendezvous (adventure/creative nonfiction), PsyBot (sci-fi/psychological thriller), Strange Love / Romance Not For Sale (short stories), and My Country: Essays and Stories from the Edge of Wilderness.
- Review of Hunter’s Daughter
Novelist Samantha Sabovitch gives 4 stars to my latest novel, Hunter’s Daughter, an historical mystery set in Northern Quebec:
“Beautifully written, atmospheric, fully developed characters. The story is character- and setting-driven, with language evoking the place and time in a visceral, emotive way. The struggles of both main characters are heart-wrenching, as they figure out who and what they are in the two very different worlds that are colliding.”
