The majority of these entries are reproduced from my travel blog spanning the decade 2006–2015. The intent is to recapture that expansive era of globe-trotting, both as a personal memoir and as an album of virtual snapshots (with the original photos as a bonus in the ebook version, but not the paperback).
At the outset, “Round the World” tours by budget travelers were growing in popularity, not necessarily as package tours, but more amenable to the gypsy spirit of wandering for its own sake, to take freedom for all it was worth. Following the path of serendipity, anyone could discover new adventures and human connections, explore less traveled exotic and remote locales, and last but not least, complement cold Northern Hemisphere winters with months in the tropics.
